James L. (Jim) Taylor, 82, of Marengo, Indiana died on March 17, 2024 at Baptist Health- Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. Jim was born on January 21, 1942 in Marengo, Indiana to the late Omer R. and Roma E. (McNaughton) Taylor.
Jim was a former office manager for Hi-Rock Quarry in Marengo, a tax preparer, insurance agent, and a farmer. He was a public servant from 1964-2020, served as fire chief for Marengo Vol. Fire Department from 1964-1967, and was a member of the Marengo Independent Methodist Church and Marengo Masonic Lodge F & AM #475.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: William O., Charles E. and Samuel R. Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian E. (Holzbog) Taylor; step son, John F. Lone (Greg) of Louisville, Kentucky; daughters, Tammy Smale (James) of Nashville, Tennessee and Julianne Taylor of Marengo, Indiana; step-daughter, Bonnie L. Zehr (Derick) of Eckerty, Indiana; brother, Spencer Lee Taylor (Marquita) of Corydon, Indiana; sister, Roma A. Mills (Mike) of Evansville, Indiana; granddaughters, Tasha Blair and Kayla Ising; step-grandchildren, Zachary and Ethan Howerton; 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. E.D.T. at the Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Birdseye Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 3-8 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, all at the funeral home.
Bro. George Key and Bro. Jason VanMeter will officiate the funeral service.
Masonic funeral rites will be given by the Marengo Masonic Lodge F.&A.M. #475 on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Marengo Independent Methodist Church, 1449 N. Hardy Road, Marengo, Indiana 47140.
