Basil G. Wilkes, 88, of English, Indiana died on June 14, 2021 at Todd-Dickey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 26, 1933 in Crawford County, Indiana to the late Clarence A. and Minnie (Knieriem) Wilkes.
He was a retired mechanic for Local Operating Egineers # 181. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the IUOE Operating Egineers #181, Bethlehem Masonic Lodge #574, where he was a 50 year + member, VFW #6160 Everett Mason Post, and the Alton American Legion Post #133.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Freida (Holzbog) Wilkes; son, Tommy Wade; brothers: Denzil and Lovell Wilkes; and a sister, Iris Timberlake.
He is survived by his companion, Donna L. Clements of English, Indiana; son, Marcus G. Wilkes of English, Indiana; daughters: Lana Wilkes and Gayna Montgomery both of English, Indiana; brother, Lowell Robert Wilkes of Depauw, Indiana; sisters: Verna Smith of Sulphur, Indiana and Patsy Eckert of Birdseye, Indiana; grandchildren: Carson Wilkes, Kylie Wilkes, Leia Treft, and Sarah Montgomery; great-grandchildren: Cason Wilkes, Callen Wilkes, Jonas Allinger, and Charlotte Treft.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Highfill Chapel Church near Taswell, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Birdseye Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 4-8 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana and after 9:00 am until time of the service at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at the church.
Bro. Al Madden will officiate the service.
Masonic Rites will be given on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 7:00 pm at the funeral home by the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge # 574.
Military graveside rites will be performed by the Everett Mason VFW Post #6160.
