James Edward Brown Sr,, 73, of Marengo, Indiana passed away at home surrounded by his wife, children and family members on Saturday April 4, 2026. James was born January 2, 1953 in New Albany, Indiana.
James completed US Army basic training at Ft Jackson in 1971 and served 7 yrs and 7 days active duty. He completed two tours of duty in Korea while assigned to the 101st Airborne division in Clarksville, TN. James completed his military career with 23 years of service in the Indiana National Guard. He was honorably discharged, with the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7), in 1994. James was an over-the-road trucker for many years, and worked for various trucking companies. James was an outgoing and hardworking man that loved laughing, and sharing a good story. James loved people, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known for his generous and loving support for many kids that he and his family knew, becoming a surrogate father to many and a friend to many more.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E Brown and Mary Alice Brown, his brother, David Brown and his sister, Donna Bruner.
James is survived by his wife of 21 years, Donna McIntosh Brown. Two daughters: Mary Cardwell (Tony), and Kendra Goerlitz. Two sons: James Brown Jr. and Brady Brown. Six grandchildren: Jessica Stepp (Jordan), Jedidiah Robson (Megan), Haven Brown, Isabella Alice Brown, Lilah Goerlitz and Coraline Goerlitz. Two Great-grandchildren: RIley Robson and Mila Robson.
Visitation and services are scheduled for April 11th at El Bethel Church, Milltown, IN.
Visitation starts at 9 am, funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Bruce Newton will be officiating.
Burial with Military Honors to follow in the El Bethel Cemetery.
