James R. Payton Sr.

James R. Payton Sr., 66, of Marengo, Indiana passed from this life on July 8, 2025 at his residence.  James was born on October 8, 1958 in Salem, Indiana to the late Melvin Bud and Laura Lau (Hudson) Payton.

James was owner and operator of Southern Indiana Asphalt Coating.  He was a member of the Rock Springs Church, was a car restorer and avid Poker player.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Payton.

He is survived by his wife, Linda S. Payton; sons, James R. Payton Jr. of Marengo, Buddy L. Payton (Savannah) of English, D. J. Davis of Mitchell, Indiana, and Rusty Deweese of Lawrenceville, Illinois; sister, Melva Grimes of Paoli, Indiana; and grandchildren, Rodney Payton, Kaydence and Luke Robbins.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana.  Interment will follow in the Rock Springs Cemetery near Valeene, Indiana.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 12, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, all at the funeral home.

Bro. Mark Manship will officiate the service.

Memorial contribution may be given to the Rock Springs Church, In Memory of James Payton.
