James Benjamin Stephenson, 88, of New Albany, Indiana, died on April 21, 2021 at Baptist Health- Floyd in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on June 2, 1932 in Milltown, Indiana to the late Paul R. and Leoma (Walk) Stephenson.
He was a United States Air Force Veteran and was stationed in Tripoli, Libya for 18 months during his four year tour of duty. He was a former manufacturing laborer for Gunnison Homes, a sales representative for Woodburn Printing, and was a coordinator in egineering and sales for nearly 30 years for the Ford Motor Company.
Jim was a 1950 graduate of Milltown High School and earned his Business Degree at Indiana University in 1960 where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a devoted family man and to his parents. Jim enjoyed numerous interests, which included travelling, shopping, and collecting antiques, and trying different ethnic foods. He was a sports enthusiast and loved vintage cars. Other interest included researching history, geology, and geography. Jim was known for his excellent memory and was a strong Democrat. He purchased a farm in his earlier years in Crawford County, near Grantsburg, Indiana, where he enjoyed entertaining family and friends. He was an animal lover, especially dogs and horses and was a supporter of conservation and wildlife.
Jim will alway be remembered for his kind personality and always wearing a smile.
He is survived by his former wife and caregiver, Donna L. Stephenson of New Albany, Indiana; step sons: Bard Lowry (Lea) of Covington, Kentucky and Derin Lowry (Marina) of Los Angeles, California; sisters: Lotus J. Malotte of Lanesville, Indiana and Ladorra A. Spencer of Milltown, Indiana; nieces and nephews: David Kerrin Hurst, Linda Allen, Patty Wyman, Tim Stephenson, Sherry Fow, Jay Malotte, Tami Griswold, and Troy Spencer; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June Hurst; brother, Larry Stephenson; nieces and nephews: Lana Harbeson, Steven Hurst, Vicki Hurst, Janine Shockley, and Todd Spencer.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
