Joseph “David” Totten, 80, was carried by angels to Heaven on January 27, 2026 at Harrison Healthcare in Corydon, Indiana. David was born on February 1, 1945 to the late Joseph Matthew and Elizabeth Hope (Baylor) Totten. He married Jane E. Froman on October 12, 1963.
His life was a beautiful example of humility, generosity, and Christlike love. He demonstrated his faith not only through words but through his actions serving others, always putting others before himself. He longed for others to know his Lord and Savior and deeply cared about where they would spend eternity.
He deeply loved his wife of 62 years, lovingly caring for her, serving her selflessly as her devoted caregiver throughout her battle with MS.
David was a former accountant for the L & N Railroad and a former owner-operator of T-Mart. He was known for his boundless energy and strong work ethic. He loved being outside working in the yard. He was a member of the Carefree Christian's Missionary Church.
David was an avid water skier who mastered the slalom course, trick skis, barefoot runs, and the jump ramp. He loved teaching family and friends to water ski, sharing his passion so others could enjoy the sport. He also loved to play tennis and was an avid runner.
David is survived by his wife, Jane E. Froman Totten of Corydon, Indiana; daughter, Janette E. Toney (Eric) of Marengo, Indiana; son Danny Ray Totten of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother, Carl Ray Totten of Grantsburg, Indiana; sister, Rosanne Miller of Sellersburg, Indiana; sister-in-law, Shirley House of Marengo, Indiana; grandchildren Courtney Slaten (Kris), Janessa Decker (Joshua), Katie Kirk (Paul), Jordan Newkirk (Alivia), Kendall and Jackson Totten, Tella Hall (Bryan), Kristina Fischer, and great-grandchildren, Trace, Chesney, Paisley, Bentley, Whitley, and Cash Slaten, Hayden Judy, Mason Decker, Ava and Rory Kirk, Alister and Alaina Newkirk, Alyssa and Kaden Hall, and Avery and Bexley Fischer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Some of the people welcoming him home were his parents, sister-in-law, Juanita Totten, and many others who have gone on before him.
