Larry Thomas (Tom) Young Sr.

Larry (Tom) Thomas Young Sr., 72, of Leavenworth, Indiana passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on July 2, 2022 at the Robley Rex VA Medical Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky from a service connected illness.  Tom was born in Charleston, Illinois, on November 9, 1949, to the late William Fletcher Young and Mary Elizabeth (Welsh) Irby.

Tom served in the United States Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic.  He was stationed in multiple bases in the United States as well as RAF Mildenhall, England and fought in Tan Son Nhut Airbase, Vietnam.  Tom is a retired Law Enforcement Officer where he proudly served as his wife’s Deputy Town Marshal with the Leavenworth Police Department for over 20 years.  During his life he also served as a Chief Town Marshal with the English Police Department and Chief Town Marshal in Milltown, Indiana.  He also retired as a Crawford County 9-1-1 Dispatcher.  Tom also worked at Kellers Manufacturing as the boiler room operator for many years and at Swifty’s in Corydon, Indiana. 

Tom was a fun loving man who loved his family, enjoyed researching history, woodworking, telling jokes, playing Santa for local schools, and most of all sitting by a lake, fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Walter Irby; and his beloved son, Larry Thomas Young Jr.; his brothers, James (Jim) Edward Young, Walter (Buddy) Lessel Irby, Stephen (Steve) Frank Irby, Lloyd Michael (Mike) Young, and William (Bill) Allen Young.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Debra (Debbie) K. Young; a son, Jason Fletcher Young both of Leavenworth, Indiana; his daughters, Stacey Jo Lahue (Carl) of Leavenworth, Indiana and Kimberly Leigh Kraft (Justin) of San Antonio, Texas; bonus children, Ray, Jimmy, and Danny Allen; his sister, Sharon Springer (Gary) of Vevay, Indiana; his brother, Charles (Chuck) Young (Denise) of Vevay, Indiana; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many more bonus family that claimed his as dad, papa, brother or friend.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana.  Interment will follow in the Fredonia Cemetery near Leavenworth, Indiana.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 4-8 pm and after 9:00 am until time of the funeral at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, all at the funeral home.

Bro. Hank Ruff will officiate the service.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy and Ray Allen, Justin Kraft, Carl Lahue, Andrew Young, George Young, Jason Young, and Tyler Young.  Honorary Pallbearers are Danny Allen, Grant Hinder, Gary Springer, and Chuck Young.
