Mary Alice (Dillman) Wright, 89, of English, Indiana passed away on May 26, 2024 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, after a brief illness. She was born in Crawford County, Indiana on October 5, 1934 to the late Russell Elwood and Jessie Marie (Stoner) Dillman.
Mary Alice graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1952, and married the love of her life,
Versel D. Wright, on November 25, 1954. They lived in numerous places in the years to come, including both Illinois and Dayton, Ohio, where she worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. After returning to Crawford County, she continued to work as a civil servant, eventually retiring from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of Louisville, Kentucky.
Mary Alice was a loving wife, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was preceded in death her by parents, her husband; her sister, Virginia Darlene (Dillman) Woolems; and nephew, Brent Woolems.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. Roger (Donna) W. Dillman; niece, Rhonda (Larry) Kay Woolems-Corbett; nephews, Dr. Jonathan (Suzanne) R. Dillman and Rev. Ryan W. Dillman; as well as six great nieces, a great nephew, and two great-great nieces, who all brought her tremendous joy.
Mary Alice loved Jesus and her church family. She was a long-time member of the English Wesleyan Church, where she held numerous roles, including board member, secretary, and treasurer. In her later years she actively volunteered for the English Food Pantry (where she liked to operate the pallet jack!) She also was a very active member of Workers for Christ, the ladies outreach of the English Wesleyan Church. She was named English Reunion Grand Marshall in 2019 in recognition of a lifetime of contributions to her community.
Visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., following visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Dr. Roger W. Dillman and Rev. Ryan W. Dillman will officiate.
Memorial donations can be given to the English Wesleyan Church or English Food Pantry.
