Phylis Ann "Mert" (Pate) Goldman

Phylis Ann “Mert” (Pate) Goldman, 87, of English, Indiana passed from this life on November 18, 2023 at Baptist Health- Floyd in New Albany, Indiana.  Phylis was born on December 10, 1935 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Dillard Marshall and Marjorie Gayle (McFall) Pate.  She married  the love of her life, Eldon W. (Plug) Goldman on October 24, 1953 and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2004.

Phylis at 13 months old survived the 1937 flood.  She was raised at the Overlook Restaurant that was opened by her mother and grandmother.  She was a dairy farmer, while raising four children, until they sold the cows in 1975.  She decided to be a nurse and received her degree from Prosser and went on to be the beloved school nurse for Crawford County High School until she retired in 2002.

She was a member of the Leavenworth Presbyterian Church and loved to shop and spend time with her family, her dogs, and loved to travel.

She is survived by her sons:  Theodore Wayne Goldman and Gary Eldon Goldman (Kathy) both of English, Indiana; daughters:  Lou Ann Walton (Bill) of Leopold, Indiana and Mary Gayle Carlile (Allen) of English, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon W. (Plug) Goldman; a sister, Ruth Jean Jenkins; and a daughter-in-law, Pam Goldman.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana.  Interment will follow in the El Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 3-8 pm and after 9:00 am until time of the service at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, all at the funeral home.

Dr. Wayne Willis will officiate the service.

Pallbearers will be Theodore Wayne Goldman Jr., Derick Goldman, Gary Wayne Austin, James Austin, Scott Austin, and Westley Austin.

Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana is entrusted with the arrangements.
